August 15th - Bennet crawled for the first time! He'd been getting up on all fours and rocking, pushing himself backward (getting extra frustrated as the object of his desire moved further and further away) and doing an impressive yoga downward-facing-dog for a couple of weeks, but he actually put the hand movements and the leg shuffle together for the first time on Saturday. He won't be breaking any land speed records as he still stops, drops, and complains every few shuffles. However, as we just moved in on Wed. the 12th and are still living out of boxes, he is definitely mobile enough to cause trouble.
Bennet's first 7.5 months have been an exciting time for our family, and I want to make sure that as he changes from an infant to a baby to a toddler, we don't forget to mark his milestones.
At 4 and 1/2 months he got his first tooth, at 4 and 1/2 months and 1 day, he got his second tooth. So for the past 3 months he's had an adorable 2 bottom tooth grin.
At 5 months he was able to sit up unsupported.
At 6 months he weighed 19lbs. Now we estimate he's around 22lbs. His average height and well into the 90th percentile weight give him a pleasing spherical shape and nice chunky Michelin-Man thigh folds. Junia was the same as a baby and we used to joke that she lacked transitional body parts (just lines where the neck, wrists and ankles should be.)
Bennet still suffers with reflux problems and has Christened every room in our new house many times over - we've been here 1 week. We were at my parent's house in CA for 5 weeks and they paid to have their carpet professionally cleaned after we left. Luckily they love their grandson!
It is pretty frustrating to not be able to put down a really heavy 7 month old without him crying, but I'm sure that if my digestive system were backing up on me like his is, I'd be fussy too.
He cries and fusses only when he is not in someone's arms being talked to and smiled at, or when he is eating. Whenever we are at parties, everyone comments on what a happy baby he is, because he LOVES attention and really turns on the charm.
He is very charming. His smile is gorgeous and his laughter is contagious. He even has trained Junia to do the same thing over and over again to get him to laugh. I don't know what I'd do without her to entertain him. When nothing else works to calm him, he will happily watch her jumping around and singing. She loves to hug and kiss him, to the point of smothering sometimes, but I prefer him to face the dangers of an overly loving sister to the alternative.
Junia talks about her baby brother to everyone. She tells people he has "pudgy cheeks" and she makes him laugh by calling him a "Wiggly Squiggly Worm!" in a sing-song voice. Actually, the cute things Junia says are so numerous that I will save them for another post. I will try to post video of Bennet crawling and laughing soon too.

I finally got to read your latest blog posts! Love all the pics and the Junia-isms. Reading about Bennet really brought back Tommy's babyhood, we held him all the time too and he seemed very happy to everybody else! That's why I got so handy with the sling. Hopefully that reflux will taper off soon and when he is nearly 3 years old, saying accidentally witty things, it will be a distant memory. In the meantime... lots of burpcloths!!
Love you guys! -Stephanie
